He's also one goal shy of matching another record held by the Real Madrid legend.

Lionel Messi established his legendary status at Barcelona long ago, yet he continues to exploit opponents to cement his position as the league’s – if not the world’s – best ever football player.

On Saturday, the Argentine ace traveled with the Blaugrana for an away clash with newly-promoted side Leganes, as Luis Enrique’s boys looked to avoid two defeats in a row.

However, the Catalan giants never looked like losing, as La Pulga and Co. ran riot. First the five-time Ballon d’Or winner opened the scoring; then he added a second from a second-half penalty. There was also a first-half assist for Luis Suarez.

The first of his two goals was enough to see Messi set a new record, as he became the first player to score at 34 stadiums in the Spanish top-flight. The previous record of 33 was held by Real Madrid icon Raul.

The 29-year-old goal also took him closer to another Raul record. Leo’s first half strike means he has now scored against 34 different teams in La Liga. Only Raul, having netted against 35 teams, boasts a superior tally.

Of course, knowing Messi, it won’t be long before he claims that record as well.
