Coach Caldwell is expected to test his summer signings, who include former Fulham centre-back Dan Burn and ex-Liverpool left-back Stephen Warnock, who was signed from Derby County. West Ham United right-back Kyle Knoyle has also signed for Wigan on loan from his parent club and is expected to feature alongside ex-Colchester United midfielder Alex Gilbey.

Will Grigg will be the man to watch in this fixture after scoring 28 goals in 48 appearances last season for the Latics, a performance that catapulted them back to the Championship.

Philippe Coutinho is expected to start after missing the win over Fleetwood on Wednesday. However, Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez could be sidelined due to injury. Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren could start in their place at the centre-back. New signing Sadio Mane is also expected to start after impressing on his debut. Cameron Brannagan was a major transfer target for Wigan before the club turned down their one-million-pound bid, and he could start on Sunday afternoon against his suitors.
