Antonio Conte's side delivered an outstanding team performance against world's second-best ranked country Belgium in their opening UEFA Euro 2016 game. The Italians started this top-flight tournament in a fashionable manner, bagging three points to keep them en route for the knockout stage.
Before Italy's first match, the media played down this Italian squad, but Buffon and Co. emerged as 2-0 victors in Group E, shocking many around the world.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, full-back Leonardo Bonucci has revealed that the win against the Red Devils is just the beginning for Conte's lads.
"This is a great opening match which fills us with enthusiasm; it should inspire us and provide us with belief, confidence, and positivity.
"This should be the first win of a great tournament for us. We showed some typical Italian qualities: hard work, humility, fitness and a desire to work for one another; plus we were clinical. We deserve this moment. Hopefully, it is just the first of many here.
"The best is yet to come."
The 29-year-old Juventus defender has made 58 appearances, netting three goals for The Azzurri.
Italy will face Sweden on June 17 at the Stadium Municipal in hopes to secure another win in France.
