Leicester City’s fairy-tale run has spread across Europe as their own manager Claudio Ranieri has been named the Italian Manager of the Year. The 64-year-old collected the Enzo Bearzot Award in Italy on Monday for his historic achievement with The Foxes. Judging from his speech, it seemed the charismatic boss, just like any other football fan on the planet, was still in shock following the famous and unexpected league win. Speaking after receiving the award, he said:
''Honestly, I still haven't realized what we've done. We started off just trying to avoid relegation and you saw what happened.''
The award was established back in 2011 to honor the 1982 World Cup-winning manager Bearzot.
Ranieri then added:
''I never met Bearzot but I've been told by people that they see his spirit in me and that fills me with pride.''
Here are the previous Enzo Bearzot award winners since its inception:
2011: Cesare Prandeli – Italy
2012: Walter Mazzarri – Napoli
2013: Vincenzo Montella – Fiorentina
2014: Carlo Ancelotti – Real Madrid
2015: Massimiliano Allegri – Juventus
2016: Claudio Ranieri – Leicester City Meanwhile, the Foxes' boss could be next the next Italy manager, given the fact that the current boss Antonio Conte is on his way to Chelsea this summer. According to the president of the Italian Football Federation, Carlos Tavecchio, Ranieri could be the right man to steer the Italians World Cup glory once again, a tournament they have won four times, most recently in 2006
