Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino could stay at the White Hart Lane for the next five years.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that he has verbally agreed a new two-year deal with the North London club despite interest from league rivals Man United. The Argentine was speaking during a pre-match interview as the Lillywhites prepared to travel to the Stamford Bridge to face their west London rivals Chelsea in their next Premier League fixture. The former Southampton boss had iniatially signed a four-year deal with the Premier League bigwigs, but as a result of a series of good results that have reawakened the sleeping giants, the Spurs board decided to offer him a two-year extension to keep him at the club until 2021.

This comes just a few days after the 44-year-old had confessed that he would love to return to French giants Paris Saint-Germain but this time round as a manager. He spent two seasons as a player for Les Parisiens between 2001 and 2003.

During the interview, he revealed:

“It’s an easy decision (agreeing a new deal).

“When you are happy and when you feel the love of the people and the potential of the club is massive. Why change?

“We create a good atmosphere on the training ground and I think we can achieve big things in the future. I am very happy. We have created a great group of players, have a very strong squad, young with potential to be top.''

He added:

“The staff, the supporters were unbelievable. The potential was massive. I think that it is a good moment to communicate this to you and so that all people know my future is here.”

The former Argentina international is expected to put pen to paper in the coming few days. Here are some of the reactions to the news of Pochettino's new deal:

Meanwhile, the North Londoners will be hoping that Leicester City will lose to Man United on Sunday. If that happens and Pochettino’s men win at the Stamford Bridge against Chelsea on Monday, this would reduce the gap between second-placed Spurs and the Foxes to four points. With two games remaining, the Chelsea fixture not included, Spurs could still win the title if they win all their remaining games and Claudio Ranieri’s men lose one more.
