A win could give El Tri their ticket to the knockout stage, while Guatemala needs to secure at least a point in order to keep their chances in the tournament. Check out the live streaming & TV info for the Gold Cup match between Mexico and Guatemala below.

Mexico and Guatemala continue their 2015 Gold Cup performance this Sunday, with both sides needing to prove their fans they are worthy of their support. Guatemala lost its first game after a baffling performance in the first half of their match against Trinidad and Tobago, while Mexico dispatched Cuba easily with a 6-0 win. Nevertheless, El Tri’s loyals still believe that the team needs to show a little bit more for them to be trusted, and their upcoming match against Los Chapines might be a good chance to confirm their title hopes.

As we mentioned before, Guatemala’s first game was certainly disappointing. Their first half against the Trinitarians was one they will want to forget quickly, but if they want to make it to the next stage, they have to learn from their mistakes. Coach Ivan Sopegno needs Carlos Ruiz and Marco Pappa to prove their influence while they lead La Azul y Blanco to a win against Mexico, something that hasn’t happened since 2007. Ruiz, the 35-year old veteran, will try to score once again against El Tri, as he did in the aforementioned meeting of 2007, when Los Chapines emerged victorious with a 3-2 score.

On the other side of the pitch, Mexico honored the odds in what resembled something like a shooting practice rather than an official game. El Tri scored six times, but if strikers Oribe Peralta and Carlos Vela had performed as expected, we could’ve been talking about one of the biggest blowouts in the tournament’s history.

Miguel Herrera expects all his players to be available against Los Chapines, since midfielder Jonathan Dos Santos left the pitch with a slight back problem. Furthermore, holding midfielder Juan José Vázquez did not start the game as expected due to a thigh problem during the game’s warmup exercises. Those are the only doubts “El Piojo” must solve before setting his starting XI against their neighbors.

Historically, Mexico has only lost six games against Guatemala, but none of those were held in a Gold Cup. In fact, Mexico’s record against La Bicolor in this competition shows a clear advantage, winning five games and drawing just one, back in 1996. Three points for El Tri would grant them their spot in the knockout stage, while it could also provide them some breathing room with their demanding fans. Guatemala also needs the victory, since  losing this match could jeopardize their presence in the next round.
