Following their recent Apertura 2014 championship, the team's executives decided to sign the former back-to-back champion with León to substitute Antonio Mohamed

Club America have not wasted any time preparing their Apertura 2014 title defense. Today, Mexico's most winning club unveiled formally Uruguayan Gustavo Matosas as their new coach, taking the job left by Antonio Mohamed hours after leading Las Aguilas to their 12th title.

Matosas is no stranger to this league, having coached Queretaro for two seasons before starting a winning era with Club León, where he promoted the team from the Ascenso MX to the Mexican top-flight. "La Fiera" became one of the most exciting teams in the league, and capped their brilliant performance with back-to-back titles under Matosas' direction. His attacking style caught Club America's eye, and both parties agreed on a two-year contract.

"If America set their eyes on me, then they must like my coaching style. I don't want to do whatever it takes to win, because that's not my philosophy. I like my players to handle the ball correctly, and that's something I'm not going to change. When I was told the players the team was signing and the group of footballers I'm going to work with, then there was nothing more to think. I take this challenge fully aware of how great this club is and how awesome its fan base is," Matosas stated in a press conference.

Nevertheless, Matosas did not compromise himself on making America a spectacular team, given the team's fans could have high hopes on him and he is afraid of not delivering what they want.

"If I win, I will be here for many years. If I don't, then the club will sack me soon. I will try my best to do my job, and then we'll see how things are working here. It's going to be quite a challenge taking a team that has just won the championship and making things even better. But of course, nothing will be possible without the players, I'll try to adapt to whatever each of them can give to the team," Matosas added.

The Clausura 2015 tournament will begin for the defending champions on January 10th, when they meet Matosas' former club, León.
