England will play their first match after a horrific World Cup campaign as they go against Norway in an international friendly on Wednesday, the 3rd of September 2014.

The Three Lions failed to win a single match at the illustrious tournament held in Brazil earlier this year and will be looking to make amends when they face Norway on Wednesday. A few of the senior squad members most notably midfield maestros Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard have announced their retirement in order to allow England’s young blood to take over.

Roy Hodgson’s new look England side will feature a lot of young players but the former Fulham manager has insisted that no player will be handed a full debut during Wednesday’s game, while also stating that Jack Colback has been ruled out of today’s match.

"All but one of the squad are fit. Jack Colback is out of the game tomorrow," Hodgson told a press conference.

"The starting line-up will be a young one. It will contain some interesting talents and has enormous potential.”

"There will be no one making their debut from the start but there will be one or two players who won't have had many starts."

This implies that neither of Fabian Delph, Calum Chambers or Danny Rose is expected to be in the starting eleven. Wayne Rooney on the other hand is set to play his first match after being appointed England’s permanent captain. However the Man United front man will lead his team out to a Wembley stadium where support for the English team is expected to be low after the Three Lions put forth a miserable showing during the World Cup. The former Everton youngster has however insisted that his team will do everything possible to win the support back.

"Obviously it [crowd] is a bit lower than normal but we expected that, the World Cup was disappointing and it's a backlash from that," he said.

"We want to make sure the crowd know we are giving everything we can to win the game tomorrow and on Monday [against Switzerland]."

Norway on the other hand are on a worse run than England and will themselves be looking to make an impression. Per-Mathias Høgmo’s men have managed just a single win in their last 11 international fixtures and will be hoping to change that before their Euro 2016 qualifying opener against Italy.
