With the addition of Raul Meireles, Andre Villas-Boas’ Chelsea are looking different. What’s next for the Blues in terms of success?
For David Luiz, the Portuguese influence at Chelsea could turn out to be very positive. The Brazilian defender, who speaks Portuguese like Andre Villas-Boas and summer signing Raul Meireles, told reporters on Wednesday:

“We have made good signings and I think Raul Meireles can be a big player for us. We played against each other in Portugal and he was difficult to stop. It is sensational he can increase our level on the pitch.

“Every day we are getting better and I bet we will have success this season. It is easy when the manager also speaks my language.

“During training sometimes he speaks Portuguese to the Portuguese speakers and it's easier to understand. Maybe we could use it as a secret tactic in matches.”

Liverpool fan Raul Meireles is dreaming about enjoying life at Chelsea. The Portuguese midfielder, who insists that he is no betrayer, spoke about his controversial transfer with RTPN last week, stating:

“I was very happy with his interest in my signature. The most important thing is to give my all every time and try to help Chelsea win titles.”

Records cannot hide the fact that Liverpool-to-Chelsea transfers haven’t produced miracles lately. As of now, Fernando Torres is yet to create the impact every Chelsea fan wants to witness. Yossi Benayoun also didn’t enjoy a great time at Stamford Bridge.

Well, Manchester United are a perfect example of how the Portuguese-speaking players and English football blend can produce successful results. Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at the club made way for Luis Nani and Brazilian youngsters Anderson, Fabio and Rafael da Silva to join Sir Alex Ferguson’s project.

So far, so good. Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United after inspiring the Red Devils to Champions League success in 2008. The current Real Madrid star was also influential in Manchester United’s domestic triumphs. Nani is now maintaining the Portuguese fever with fine performances in attack whereas the quality of the Da Silva twins and Anderson cannot be overlooked.

Are Chelsea well armed to fight current English Premier League leaders Manchester United and company this season? In any case, the January transfer window is not so far away…
