The Argentine ace had a massive influence in the outcome of Wednesday's game, but there's more to it than some could expect.

In one more display of his humble personality, Lionel Messi admitted that even if he will be awarded an assist for his contribution to Gerard Pique's goal, the refs should hold that one back because he didn't try to find his team-mate inside PSV's box.

Messi had given Barcelona a 1-0 lead with an impressive solo effort, but when he tried to add one more goal, his attempt was deflected by the Catalan center back and went into the back of the net. Right after the game, Messi came clean about his intentions during that particular moment of the game.

"I can't lie. My shot went all wrong and he happened to be around,"Messi said.

The Argentine tried to calm Barcelona fans down despite their good form in the competition, even if Los Blaugranas have stated that their main goal is to end Real Madrid's 3-year dominance in this tournament.

"We're always prepared, but each year is different and many things can happen. We can't think about what will go down in February, we need to think on a one-game-at-a-time basis and see what goes on from there," the footballer added.
