It’s another weekend of English Premier League football and the ambition for the seven clubs at the top of the standings remains pretty much the same.

Tottenham Hotspur will resume their English Premier League campaign with a game away to Everton. There’s an exception for Tottenham Hotspur, however. The London-based contenders suffered a 3-1 defeat in the hands of Manchester United last weekend. The outcome of this game virtually ended their contest for the English Premier League title so Harry Redknapp is forced to see the rest of the campaign in a different way.

Spurs are 9 points behind second-placed Man United and 13 points behind Manchester City with 11 Matchdays to go. Mathematically, nothing is lost. Realistically, though, Tottenham Hotspur better take off their eyes from the prestigious trophy.

Let’s just say that the English Premier League is strictly a two-horse race now. The title will land in Manchester. That’s almost certain. Still, for Tottenham Hotspur the excitement in the league isn’t gone. They’ve done so well to be where they presently are in the table. The next thing they can do is to hold on to the third and last automatic Champions League spot.

On Saturday afternoon, Tottenham Hotspur could temporarily increase the gap over fourth-placed Arsenal to 7 points. The Gunners will be in action on Monday only whereas Spurs will be away to Everton in Saturday’s evening kick-off.

Tottenham’s last outing ended in a shocking 5-2 loss at the Emirates Stadium. Harry Redknapp’s will have to boost his players’ morale as Everton are looking to build upon their 1-1 draw against Queens Park Rangers.

Earlier in the day, everyone’s attention will be at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea will host Stoke City in a big game – not in terms of Stoke’s size on paper but in terms of the game’s significance. This will be the Blues’ first English Premier League battle since the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas.

The FA Cup contenders are poised to bounce back in style but Stoke City could spoil the party at the Bridge. The Potters are very physical as one may know and they are not putting any restriction upon their dream to qualify for UEFA Europa League football. Stoke City occupy the ninth position in the Premiership and they are only 3 points behind Liverpool in seventh.

The competition is high in the English Premier League. Ahead of Matchday 28, each club involved has something to play for. Also on Saturday, Liverpool will play away to Sunderland. Kenny Dalglish may pray for luck this time round. Against Arsenal last weekend, the Reds provided a good performance but still lost due to Robin van Persie’s double. With a bit of luck, Liverpool should edge the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light.
