Barcelona’s task to reinvigorate their squad got more difficult after losing La Liga to rivals Real Madrid last season. Their search for a midfielder has proven fruitless so far; whilst the departure of Neymar means a mega signing is needed before the transfer window shuts close.
Marco Verratti, Ernesto Valverde’s main target throughout the summer, is going nowhere. The Italian is expected to sign a new deal at PSG, all but ending the Blaugrana’s hopes. Now, the Catalan giants have reportedly turned their attention towards another Ligue 1 ace.
According to L’Equipe, that man is Jean-Michael Seri. The Ivorian received rave reviews last season after helping Nice finish third in the league and thus qualify for the Champions League play-offs. The 26-year-old scored seven and assisted nine to attract the attention of top European clubs.
Barcelona is one of them, which will be bad news for Arsenal and Tottenham. The north London giants are also in the race for the Ivorian, but a move to Camp Nou could be hard to reject for Seri. L’Equipe have Arsenal as the likely destination should a transfer to Spain fall through.
Seri – a box-to-box midfielder – is not a replacement for Neymar. The Copa del Rey champions have lined up another Brazilian to fill the void left by the 25-year-old Selecao ace: Philippe Coutinho.
Klopp has stated that his star player is not for sale, but several reports claim the Brazilian is on his way to Spain. Furthermore, the Sun write that the Blaugrana are confident of sealing a £90m deal for the Reds ace “this week”.
