On Saturday, Arsenal and Chelsea locked horns for a pre-season friendly. With both sides preparing for the upcoming season, this was a golden opportunity for both clubs to either experiment or strengthen their fitness.
Unfortunately, the game did not go as planned for the Gunners. Despite having beaten the Blues in their last meeting – the FA Cup final – the north London outfit were trailing 2-0 after by the break.
Willian and Michy Batshuayi scored in the space of two minutes before half-time, with the Belgian forward soon completing his brace. The north London outfit were unable to score past Thibaut Courtois.
Although Le Prof started two inexperienced youngsters, his starting lineup consisted of Mesut Ozil, Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey, Chamberlain, Alex Iwobi, and Mertesacker. Club record signing Alexandre Lacazette was named in the lineup but failed to score.
Of course, Arsenal fans were unhappy with the performance despite this being a friendly. And in typical fashion, many Gooners went into meltdown and called for Wenger to be sacked. This saw the “Wenger Out” hashtag re-emerge from the ashes.
Some supporters saw this defeat as a sign of things to come next season. Others called for calm, as this was not a competitive game. Check out some of the tweets below.
Only Arsenal fans could make #WengerOUT trending on Twitter after a friendly game.
