La Roja is believed to be one of the toughest sides involved in this competition. Will Alexis & Co. live up to the hype surrounding them?

La Roja has been one of the most dominant squads in South American football in recent years, and even if they are still struggling to make their presence felt in the World Cup Qualifiers, the 2017 Confederations Cup seems like a prime opportunity to show the world what they can do.

With back-to-back Copa América titles under their belt, Chile has all the needed credentials to be considered as a title contender. Most of their usual starters thrived during the recently concluded season, and they'll surely try to translate that into a solid performance for the South American titans that could motivate them to secure their spot in the WC next year.

Chile's Confederations Cup record

Chile will be making their debut in the competition, after years of disappointment in CONMEBOL's Copa América. La Roja will be sharing Group B with Germany, Australia and Cameroon, being the African team their first opponent in this tournament.

Chile's current form

La Roja has played seven games in 2017, barely reaching positive numbers of three wins, two draws and two losses. Their most recent loss in a competitive game came against Argentina in March, while their last friendly match prior to the competition ended in a baffling 3-2 loss against Romania.

Chile's 2017 Confederations Cup roster

Goalkeepers: Claudio Bravo (Manchester City), Cristopher Toselli (U.Católica), Johnny Herrera(U. de Chile).

Defenders: Eugenio Mena(Sport Recife), Enzo Roco(Cruz Azul), Mauricio Isla(Cagliari), José Fuenzalida(U.Católica), Paulo Díaz(San Lorenzo), Jean Beausejour(U. de Chile), Gary Medel(Inter), Gonzalo Jara(U. de Chile).

Midfielders: Francisco Silva(Cruz Azul), Arturo Vidal(Bayern Munich), Pablo Hernández(Celta Vigo), Felipe Gutiérrez(Internacional), Martín Rodriguez(Cruz Azul), Leonardo Valencia(Palestino), Charles Aránguiz(Bayer Leverkusen), Marcelo Díaz(Celta Vigo).

Strikers: Alexis Sánchez(Arsenal), Angelo Sagal(Huachipato), Edu Vargas(Tigres), Edson Puch(Pachuca).

The man on the tactician's bench

Juan Antonio Pizzi took over the team's coaching duties in January 2016, following Jorge Sampaoli's resignation after an argument over his salary with the Chilean Football Association. The Argentinean-born boss has won 11 of his 21 games in charge of La Roja, including the 2016 Copa América Centenario final against Argentina.
