A major case of Déjà vu awaits at the Parc des Princes...will 2017 bring better fortunes for Les Parisiens?

PSG

For Paris Saint-Germain, the quarter-finals stage has become an exercise in frustration. In each of the past four seasons, Les Parisiens have been eliminated. Two of those, in 2013 and 2015 were at the hands of their upcoming opponents - Barcelona - whom they don't seem to have much luck in avoiding. In fact, this will be the third knockout meeting between the Blaugrana and Les Parisiens in just five seasons.

Domestically, Unai Emery's men are not finding things so easy in the race for the Ligue 1 title. In contrast to last season, during which Les Parisiens were in cruise control throughout, this time around, a recently resurgent Monaco plus a high-flying Nice have turned a one-horse race into a multi-party affair.

The hosts will be missing the "two Thiagos" for this game. Veteran midfielder Thiago Motta is banned, whilst highly experienced defender Thiago Silva is suffering from a muscular problem. This means that young defender Presnel Kimpembe could make his European debut in arguably what will be the biggest match of his career.

Barcelona

Here's an interesting stat that both Les Parisiens and Blaugrana supporters should consider: When Luis Suárez scores, Barcelona do not lose. The ex-Liverpool man has scored in 70 out of his 128 appearances for the Blaugrana across all competitions, and the team have won 65 and drawn five times.

The Blaugrana currently sit in second spot in La Liga, just one point behind Real Madrid - albeit their bitter rivals have two games in hand. Luis Enrique's men are also through to the finals of the Copa del Rey after seeing off Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals.

Like their opponents, Barcelona are missing a few key players. Whilst they cruised to a very easy 6-0 win over Deportivo - in which all three members of "MSN" were on target - it cost them the services of Aleix Vidal. due to a severe ankle problem. In addition, the versatile Javier Mascherano sits out, as will Turkish star Arda Turan.

So, with both teams without a few familiar faces, it will be very interesting to see how each coach adjusts in what definitely looks set to be a blockbuster clash.
