On Monday, one of the most remarkable debuts in football happened, as Karamoko Dembele featured for Celtic’s under-20 side.
What was so special about that debut? It came against Hearts, with the boy being only 13 years old. Smaller in stature than most of the other players, he made a late short cameo.
He came on in the 81st minute for Jack Aitchsion with only nine minutes left on the clock, as most of the regular u-20 players were off on international duty. Here’s everything you need to know about him.
Who is he and where is he from?
His full name is Karamoko Kader Dembele. Born in Ivory Coast, he came into this world in 2003.
Style of play
The 13-year-old can play in the attacking midfield role or as a center-forward, though he does tend to cut inside from the wings.
How he came to fame
His sizzling displays at the St Kevin's Boys club tournament saw him shoot to stardom, as videos of him went viral.
Ever since then, there have been comparisons between him and a young Lionel Messi due to his pace, power, and lovely ball control skills.
Any relation with the other Dembele?
Of course, Celtic have another, more famous Dembele in the form of senior squad striker Moussa Dembele. The last name is the only thing they share in common, as there is no relation between the striker and Karamoko.
