Portugal starlet Renato Sanches has been a major talking point after Portugal's qualification to the semi-finals, beating Poland 5-3 on penalties.

The 18-year-old caught the eyes of Bayern Munich, as the Portuguese player has joined the German giants on a stunning 35 million euro deal. Sanches continued to make headlines after an impressive performance against Adam Nawałka's men, scoring a word class goal to level the game in the 33rd minute.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Renato Sanches dismissed the notion of Portugal advancing to the UEFA Euro 2016 semi-finals due to luck.

"Right now things are going well for the side. We gave our best on the pitch and critics only made us stronger.

"It is a wonderful moment for the team, for me for scoring, we have been working very hard and we have been doing our best. People criticise us but we don't care, because we are in the semis.

"It takes a lot of hard work to be this lucky. Sometimes we are bound to be lucky because we have worked very hard."

The influential midfielder also claimed that his side never lost faith despite Poland's early goal.

"We conceded very early but we believed until the end, we tried our best.

"The move for the goal turned out that way, but the team has been playing well, we are very confident so we will keep on trying to play our best."

In addition to his brilliant strike in the first half, the 18-year-old also stepped up to the spot and fired his penalty to the back of the net.

"For the penalties, the coach asked who wanted to shoot. Cristiano was first and I said I would be second. The coach had faith in me, and I was confident enough to ask to shoot.

"I was just thinking about scoring, I was very cool, very collected, did what I always do and picked a side and put it in there."

Portugal is set to face the winners of Friday's quarter-final clash between Wales and Belgium.
