Brazil will have to play the Copa América Centenario without Neymar and with lots of absences due to injury. They couldn't have asked for a tougher opening game, as they will face Ecuador at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California.

Brazil will always be considered one of the favorites in every tournament they participate in, and the upcoming 2016 Copa America Centenario is no different. They will make their debut against an in-form Ecuador team at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, the same venue where Brazil lifted the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

Brazil Team News & Analysis

Manager Dunga was the first tactician to announce his 23-man squad for the Copa, but he’s been forced to make several changes due to injuries. Douglas Costa, Rafinha, Ederson, Kaká, Ricardo Oliveira and Luiz Gustavo are some of the names that were selected to play on U.S. soil, but that won’t be able to feature for La Canarinha.

However, their biggest absence will be the loss of Neymar. Barcelona forced the attacker to choose between the Copa America and the Olympics, and the star forward opted to play in Rio 2016. Dunga will have to find a way to make things work without his best player, and Brazil has been known for struggling every time Neymar isn’t on the pitch.

The best player in Brazil won't be in the Copa America after choosing to play in the Rio 2016 Olympics instead.

Fortunately for Brazil fans, Dunga still managed to carry a competitive team to the Copa America, and they have enough depth, talent and experience to be placed among the favorites. Phillipe Coutinho, Willian, Joao Miranda and Elias are some of the players that will look to lead La Selecao to their first Copa America since 2007.

Ecuador Team News & Analysis

Speaking of injuries, Ecuador has had its fair share of problems in terms of fitness, too. Regular starters such as midfielder Pedro Quiñonez and striker Felipe Caicedo have been ruled out of the tournament, and central defender Frickson Erazo is doubtful to play due to injury.

Manager Gustavo Quinteros, however, has plenty of options available as replacements. Manchester United midfielder Luis Antonio Valencia remains one of the best players on the squad, and other established players such as Christian Noboa, Miller Bolaños and Swansea City’s Jefferson Montero are talented enough to pose a threat against any opponent.
