Manchester City could be banned from the transfer market for signing an underage player, if the latest reports from Italy are true. According to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, The Citizens are being investigated by world football governing body FIFA over the transfer of Maltese youngster Myles Beerman in 2014. The English giants allegedly signed the youngster when he was just 13 years of age from Floriana FC.
The report further suggests that FIFA have asked the Maltese FA and Floriana to provide documentation regarding the youngster, and his activities between 2012 and 2014. If found to have signed a player of that age, City could be handed a transfer ban for violating Article 19 of FIFA’s rules and regulations that prohibits signing players under the age of 18.
As a result, this could hinder Pep’s plans to revive the club when he takes over in the summer. However, in most cases, the ban takes effect after one or two transfer windows, something that could give the Spaniard the much-needed reprieve to sign the players he desires, not forgetting the option to appeal.
The Citizens travel to Swansea to face The Swans this weekend for their last Premier League fixture of 2015/16 as Pep prepares to take over in the summer.
