FA Cup action will continue on Monday with a top-flight matchup between Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur, with the recently promoted team hosting the Spurs in what should be an exciting third round game.
Burnley has struggled during the first semester of their Premier League season, currently holding the 19th position in the English top-flight. Coach Sean Dyche will rotate his team in order to keep them fit for their next game against Queens Park Rangers, trying to move themselves out of relegation spots. Such players as Jason Shackell and Kevin Long will not participate on Monday, while the status of on-loan midfielder remains doubtful. Other like George Boyd want this games to provide the boost they need to earn more points in the upcoming second half of the season.
"Nobody expected us to come up with any points in our recent fixtures, but we've shown our character again. This will be a big match and we hope a big crowd will be at Turf Moor to get behind us," Boyd said.
For Tottenham, this could prove to be a good opportunity to start Spanish striker Roberto Soldado, who has not been a regular for Mauricio Pochettino's team. Furthermore, midfielder Erik Lamela could be rested so he can recover properly of a calf problem, adding to the Spurs' absences that of Nabil Bentaleb, who joined Algeria for the African Cup of Nations.
The Spurs get to this match with a six game undefeated streak, which includes a 5-3 victory against Chelsea and a 2-1 score against their hosts on Monday. The team's leading striker Harry Kane praised his FA Cup opponents before their clash.
"Burnley are a good side, played well at White Hart Lane and they've enjoyed some good results recently. It will be difficult for us, without a doubt," he stated.
