A Group E fixture will feature Honduras and Ecuador who go head to head at the Arena da Baixada on Friday, the 20th of June.

Both Honduras and Ecuador suffered defeats at the hands of France and Switzerland respectively during their opening fixtures.  For Honduras a red card to their star player Wilson Palacios cost them dearly as they lost 3-0 to France, with Karim Benzema having a part to play in all three goals.

Ecuador on the other hand surrendered their 1-0 lead over Switzerland to lose 2-1. It was Enner Valencia who opened up the scoring, netting his fifth goal in as many international appearances. Admir Mehmedi struck only three minutes after coming on as a substitute at half time and Haris Seferovic’s winner in the dying moments sent the Swiss team as well as the fans into rapture.

According to coach Reinaldo Rueda his side could not control their emotions towards the end of the game and paid the price by conceding a very late goal.

"We lost our organisation, which has been one of our characteristics, at the end of the match, we were somewhat betrayed by our emotion," Rueda told reporters.

"This provoked the goal which took the draw away from us. I believe a moment of naivety costs us the match."

Despite the defeat Ecuador’s head coach was satisfied with his team’s performance but expressed the importance of picking themselves up before the game against Honduras.

"It was an intense game and I think it was very even, both sides moved the ball around well," added Rueda.

"Football is like that, the result wasn't really what we deserved. We now have to get over this defeat and work on our morale."

Hondurans will have to do without Stoke City midfielder who was red carded in the match against France, the 29 year old is likely to be replaced by Oscar Boniek Garcia in midfield. Ecuador on the other hand could make a few changes to the squad with Michael Arroyo likely to make it into the squad ahead of Man City reject Felipe Caicedo.

The two sides have faced one another 13 times and eight of these encounters ended in draw. Ecuador have recorded three victories against their counterparts, with Honduras managing just two victories against their opponents on Friday. 27 goals have been scored in a span of 13 matches, 14 scored by Ecuador and 13 by Honduras.
