Saying Memphis Depay has not met expectations would be an understatement.
After an impressive 2014-15 Eredivisie-winning season with PSV, the Dutch ace sealed a £25m move to Manchester United, and was quickly hyped up as the next Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, the 21-year-old has done little to live up to that title, as his mere 5 goals in 25 games has fans disappointed, with fears Memphis could emulate Angel Di Maria from last season.
Former Chelsea boss Ruud Gullit has now blasted the Netherlands international, who recently came under heavy criticism in the Red Devils’ 2-0 defeat away to Stoke City, labeling him as the flop of the season.
However, the ex-Blues manager has handed the Man United star a warning, advising him to stay out of the headlines and to focus only on regaining his form, having made a stir by turning up at Carrington in a Rolls-Royce.
“I’m a fan of Memphis and have faith in him, but he has to do something to live up to expectations — and that is to perform," said the 53-year-old.
“If you’re not performing you should not turn up for training in a new Rolls-Royce or Hummer.
“He’s got to focus entirely on football and that is where his advisors and so-called friends have a key role.
“It would be a sin for a player like Memphis to be lost to the game as a result of side issues.
“He has been regarded as the biggest waste of money this season.”
