About Magyar Kupa
Magyar Kupa History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Hungarian Cup, also known as Magyar Kupa, is the domestic knockout cup competition in Hungary. It was founded in 1909, eight years after the establishment of the Hungarian top-flight league, and is organized by the Hungarian Football Association.
Participants in the competition include both professional and amateur football clubs in the country. The main round features 128 clubs with the amateur teams qualifying through local cup competitions. The winner of the Hungarian Cup earns a ticket to the UEFA Europa Conference League, UEFA’s third-tier continental club competition, the following season.
MTK Budapest and Ferencváros are two iconic teams in this tournament, with these Hungarian powerhouses winning all but one of the first 11 Magyar Kupa titles — Kispest disrupted this dominance with their 1925-26 success.
