About Campeonato Baiano 1
Campeonato Baiano 1 is the top-flight league for the state of Bahia in Brazil. The competition began in 1905, with the inaugural title being lifted by Clube Internacional de Cricket from Salvador, the capital of Bahia.
The format for this tournament is simple: 10 teams are placed in one group for the first stage in a single round-robin, meaning each side faces the other nine clubs once. The top four teams advance to the knockout stage while the bottom-placed side gets relegated to the second division.
After the first round come the semi-finals and finals, both of which are two-legged affairs. The higher-seeded team gets the home advantage in the second leg and if the match ends in a draw on aggregate, the winner is decided by a penalty shootout.
The champions of the Campeonato Baiano qualify for the Copa do Nordeste and the Copa do Brasil. Similarly, the second and third-placed teams earn a ticket to the national cup.
