RCTI history, coverage, features
RCTI is an Indonesian television channel owned and operated by MNC Media. This channel was launched on November 13, 1988 as a trial broadcast, and its official launch taking place on August 24, 1989. The channel was launched as a local network during its initial year, but the country’s authorities gave the channel a national license in 1990.
Over the years, RCTI has been known as a general interest channel, with news, quiz shows, animation programs, soap operas, talent shows, and sports. The channel has aired most of its content in Indonesian language, although there may be some shows that have been produced abroad to be aired in their native language.
Speaking about sports, RCTI has aired both club and national team football, along with other disciplines such as biking, and athletics. When it comes to football RCTI has covered tournaments such as the Italian Serie A, the English FA Cup, the AFC Champions League, the AFC Cup, and the AFF Championship, to name a few. The channel has become known for airing games for all Indonesian national teams and clubs whenever playing an international competition.
RCTI was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was launched to add depth to the viewer’s experience. The HD feed became the primary option to watch this channel, while a downscaled version of this feed has been made available for users who do not have access to HD technology.
