About
Indosiar History, Coverage, Features
Indosiar is an Indonesian television channel owned and operated by Surya Citra Media. The channel was launched as a trial broadcast on December 18, 1994, becoming an official channel on January 11, 1995.
Over the years, Indosiar has been known mostly as a cultural channel, but it has added television series and sports broadcasts to increase its popularity. Most of the content aired by this channel has been produced within the country, but the channel has also added shows produced outside of the country to add depth to its programming.
Indosiar’s first sports broadcasts came in 2003, when the channel aired NASCAR racing events to its grid. The channel kept adding other disciplines such as basketball, football, mixed martial arts, wrestling, athletics and rugby.
When it comes to football, Indosiar has aired some of the top football leagues in Europe and in Asia. Those leagues have included the English Premier League, the Italian Serie A, and the German Bundesliga. Other leagues covered by Indosiar have included the Indonesian Liga 1, the Liga 2, and the President’s Cup.
Indosiar was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was made available to its users during the first months of 2010. Both feeds may still be available via different pay-tv carriers across the country.
