The Magpies will be eager to add to their remarkable run of form under new ownership and management although the stakes are not exactly high for them. They approach the encounter with the Reds on the back of a four-game winning run in the premiership. Their last outing ended in a 3-0 away victory over Norwich. On the contrary, the opponent they face, Liverpool, will only be interested in getting the maximum three points with the intention to momentarily ascend the top of the table.
Should that happen, Man City will have it all to play for when they travel to Leeds for their game of the weekend. The Citizens are soaring in confidence after defeat Real Madrid 4-3 in the first round of their Champions League semi-final encounter. A return leg at the Bernabeu is on the cards but a win over Leeds will be the primary objective as any other result could hamper their title aspirations.
On Sunday, West Ham will welcome Arsenal to London Stadium with the hope of potentially demoting Manchester United to the seven position with a win. However, the test will not come easy for David Moyes' men who are looking to returning to winning ways after going on a three-game winless run across all competitions. The Gunners themselves are expected to turn up for the contest in the same manner as what handed them their recent wins over Chelsea and Manchester United.
Speaking about the latter, the quest for a top-four finish was waved goodbye when they drew 1-1 with Chelsea at Old Trafford on Thursday night. They will try to finish on a high when they travel to Brentford for their outing this weekend. Relegation-battlers Everton will welcome Chelsea to the Goodison Park in what will be a reunion for manager Frank Lampard and his former side. Any result but a win could be catastrophic for the Toffees who have two points separating them and safety.
