Costa Rica's National Team has played 13 of the 14 previous Copa America editions to this date. Los Ticos have always been a strong opponent, but they have never been able to win the title. Their best result came in the 2002 Gold Cup, when they lost the title match. The 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup concluded with Los Ticos being eliminated by the USMNT.

Who are Costa Rica's key players for the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup?

Bryan Ruiz – The former Sporting player, now playing for Santos in Brazil, will be the team's captain and spiritual leader. Given Keylor Navas' absence, Ruiz's leadership and ball-handling skills will come in handy to top Group B, while also trying to reach the final stages of the competition.

Joel Campbell – For years, Campbell was seen as a gem that needed work. Today, the former Arsenal player has proven to be key for Costa Rica's chances. Campbell has found in Liga MX's León the consistency his career needed, and after reaching the Clausura 2019 final with his club, he will try to repeat that feat with Los Ticos.

Leonel Moreira – Given Navas' absence, Moreira is being pointed out to fill the massive gap left by Real Madrid's shot-stopper. Moreira has defended Costa Rica's net nine times, and is seen by many as Navas' successor once he decides to conclude his international career.

Who is Costa Rica's coach?

Gustavo Matosas – The Uruguayan tactician took over as Costa Rica's coach back in October, but he coached his first game until this year. Two of Matosas' three games at the helm have ended in defeat for Costa Rica, and turning that streak around will be his first order of business. This is Matosas' first experience as coach for a National Team.
