On Friday, Japan and Brazil locked horns in one of many friendlies during the ongoing international break. The two nations, having booked their tickets to Russia, have begun preparation for next year’s World Cup tournament.
It didn’t take too long for the Selecao to open the goalscoring. After only 10 minutes, Neymar put the ball in the back of the net from a spot kick to give his nation the lead. The five-time World Cup winners went on to win that game 3-1.
The PSG superstar had VAR to thank for breaking the deadlock. Tite’s side was only awarded the penalty after the match official checked the replay to determine Fernandinho had been fouled in the box.

That goal was number 53 for the world’s most expensive player with the national side. That is an impressive number, given that he is only 25 and has years ahead of him.
Neymar is moving ever closer to overtaking Romario as Brazil’sthird-highest scorer in history. At 55 goals, the PSG ace needs three more goals to overtake the Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven icon.
Pele’s all-time record remains in the distant. Neymar needs 25 more goals for the national side in order to pass the 77-year-old’s record of 77 strikes. Then again, the Ligue 1 star has all the time in the world.
