It hasn't been easy to be a Manchester United supporter since Louis Van Gaal took over the team's coaching duties. After today's performance, it won't get any easier.
Manchester United's return to Europe's most challenging club tournament lasted only four months, following a disappointing Group Stage exit. With today's loss and PSV's win, United's hopes of making it to the knockout stage were destroyed in a matter of minutes.
Things seemed to be OK for the Red Devils, as Anthony Martial scored the go ahead goal for LVG's crew just after ten minutes. Nevertheless, Naldo and Vieirinha fought back for the hosts and gave them the lead before the halftime break. Late in the game, an own goal by Joshua Guilavogui gave the Red Devils an undeserved ticket to the knockout stage, but five minutes before the game ended, Naldo's header eliminated United's chances of progression.
As a consolation prize, United will have the chance to play in the Europa League, where their millionaire investment will have to pay off in order to save face with fans and footballing world itself. Check out the best reactions and trolls regarding their elimination.

Of the last five seasons, Manchester United's best in Europe was under Moyes. Post 2011 final, decade of chronic underinvestment showed.
