Man United's shot stopper believes Argentina's current players should be thanked for returning the team to the spotlight, after a few years in the shadows

Prior to their friendly match against Mexico, goalkeeper Sergio Romero spoke about a variety of subjects, including his position as Man United's starting shot-stopper, and the players' influence in Argentina's history, despite failing to win any more trophies with La Albiceleste

According to Romero, this generation of players should be considered as one of the best, since they managed to achieve things Argentina was forgetting about.

"Having the National Team back in the spotlight is a step forward. It is our duty and honor, since we are fortunate to wear La Albiceleste. During the past two years we reached two finals, and I thint the first step is to acknowledge that. We were responsible for Argentina's resurgence," Romero stated.

Furthermore, Romero believes that these player can adapt to whatever their coach asks of them, giving them a good range of possibilities for the future.

"We can perform exactly how our coaches ask us to. We did a great job with Sabella, and then 'Tata' came and asked something quite different, but we ended up delivering. I think every coach knows that and he can be satisfied with it," the goalkeeper added.

Romero about Man United: "I hope this dream never ends"

After four games with Manchester United, the Argentinean goalkeeper believes he has what it takes to take the full-time job with The Red Devils. Well aware that his chance came when David De Gea started negotiations to join Real Madrid, Romero believes he can live up to the expectations while keeping the Spanish goalkeeper on the bench for good.

"A goalkeeper never rotates. Either you start off as the No.1 choice, or you have to wait for it, there is no third option. Even though I wasn't able to go through the entire pre-season with the team, Van Gaal gave me the gloves and I started as the first-choice keeper. I have to thank him for it, and I hope that playing with Manchester is a dream that never ends," Romero told the press.

Fans seem to have De Gea up on a pedestal, even if he was on the verge of joining Real Madrid last month. Romero believes that the competition for the starting bid will only benefit the team, and he has reason to believe the coach will back him with his trust.

"I don't think I own the position, but I do know that the team's coaches trust me. Having that trust as a goalkeeper is very important, and I can say that the coach believes in my skills. I'll try to thank him by doing my best," the shot-stopper concluded.
