The former Mexican striker resigned on Monday during a meeting with the club owner, Jorge Vergara. Apparently, coach Carlos Bustos maintains his job at least for the next game.

Crisis explodes in Chivas as they face relegation. Sports Vicepresident Francisco Palencia resigned yesterday, since results during his administration have not been satisfying. Besides, sources have told the former Chivas and Cruz Azul player did not have a good relationship with newly appointed Operations VP Rafael Puente del Rio, who reportedly suggested coach Carlos Bustos to the club's owner, Jorge Vergara.

In a press conference held today, Palencia told the media why he decided to leave his position in the middle of a crisis that could end up with the team's relegation:

"When you work in football, you won't necessarily agree with everyone around you. I've always been here for the team, but right now I believe the best thing for me is to step down and let others do my job," Palencia stated, clearly referring to Rafael Puente.

"I thought about it after the match against Puebla, then I spoke with Mr. Vergara and we thought it was in the best interest of the team for me to leave my position. I hope the guys get better on the pitch, and I will focus right now on my personal projects," Palencia added.

Palencia became the 14th executive member to resign or be fired from Chivas since Jorge Vergara bought the team in 2002.
