Copa Paraguay geschiedenis, opzet, organisatie, media-aandacht

De Copa Paraguay is een knock-outtoernooi georganiseerd door de Paraguayaanse Voetbalbond. Het werd gelanceerd in 2018 en verwelkomt alle teams uit het Paraguayaanse professionele voetbalsysteem. In de eerste seizoenen kreeg de winnaar een plek in de Copa Sudamericana, maar de APF heeft die regel veranderd en besloten de kampioenen een plaats te geven in de Copa Libertadores van het volgende jaar. Als de winnaar zich al heeft gekwalificeerd, krijgen de verliezende finalisten die kans. Daarnaast kwalificeert de winnaar van het toernooi zich ook voor de Supercopa Paraguaya.

Het toernooi begint met lagere divisieteams die een voorronde spelen, waarbij vier teams doorgaan naar de volgende ronde. Daar worden ze vergezeld door 36 clubs uit alle categorieën, behalve de Primera División. In deze fase komen er 20 winnaars uit elke knock-outwedstrijd, en zij worden in de derde ronde vergezeld door de teams uit de Primera División. Teams spelen enkelvoudige wedstrijden, waarbij strafschoppen worden gebruikt om een winnaar aan te wijzen in geval van een gelijkspel na 90 minuten. De finale wordt gespeeld op een neutraal terrein.

De dekking van deze competitie is toegekend aan Tigo Star. Het bedrijf heeft de uitzendrechten voor deze competitie veiliggesteld tot 2025, met exclusieve dekking van het toernooi zowel op tv als via streamingdiensten.
