About
TSN2 history, coverage, features
TSN2 is an English-language Canadian sports channel owned by CTV Specialty Television Inc., which launched in August 2008. It serves as the sister channel and secondary feed of The Sports Network (TSN).Initially created to address regional blackouts, TSN2 replaced TSN's alternate feed when the network was allowed to have more than one channel. It launched in both standard definition and HD.
At its inception, TSN2 operated as a timeshift channel, broadcasting TSN's programming with a three-hour delay for viewers in the Pacific Time Zone. However, in early 2010, it evolved into a multiplex channel, enabling it to function independently from the main TSN feed.
The channel has historically featured a diverse lineup of sports programming. Upon its launch, TSN2 showcased auto racing and tennis, including providing coverage of major events such as the US Open.
In addition to various basketball tournaments, TSN2 aired NBA matches featuring the Toronto Raptors. It was also the exclusive Canadian broadcaster of the 2010 FIBA World Championship, the FIBA World Championship for Women in the same year, and both the FIBA Americas Championship and its women's counterpart in 2011, thanks to a multi-year partnership with Canada Basketball.
TSN2 has also featured events such as the Spengler Cup and regional telecasts of games involving the NHL's Montreal Canadiens, securing these rights in the 2017-18 season. Due to the ever-changing nature of broadcast rights agreements, these competitions may no longer be available on the channel. For the latest information, check the network's official website.
TSN2 is accessible via cable, satellite, and IPTV, and has been carried by providers such as Shaw Cable, Shaw Direct, Telus Optik TV, and Vidéotron. Although Rogers Cable did not pick up the channel at launch, it added TSN2 to its offerings nearly a year after the initial debut.
