With Liverpool having slipped up recently in the top-four race, Tottenham has received a golden opportunity to leapfrog them in the standings. Thanks to the Reds’ 1-0 loss at Chelsea, the gap between fourth-placed Spurs and Klopp’s third-placed side is a single point.
Pochettino’s side is even boosted by the fact that they have played one less game than Liverpool, but a slip-up would waste this chance and could see Spurs get leapfrogged by the Blues. Unfortunately, Tottenham will be without Eric Dier for this important game due to illness.
Luckily, Jan Vertonghen is back to full fitness and should feature. The same can’t be said for Serge Aurier (hamstring) and Moussa Dembele (ankle).
Rafael Benitez is still without Islam Slimani who is out on suspension. Elsewhere, a similar lineup is expected from the Newcastle boss.
