Inter Milan will host seventh-place Palermo on Sunday, with the obligation of earning a much needed victory to revamp their hopes for European football next season.
After Roberto Mancini's arrival in November, Inter enjoyed a hot streak under the former Manchester City coach, but their good luck ran out quickly after sustaining heart-breaking losses against Sassuolo and Torino. Furthermore, the Neroazzurri lost their Coppa Italia quarter-final match against Napoli in stoppage time, creating speculation among fans and their possibilities of improvemente on a short-term basis.
After their active transfer window, where Mancini's crew were boosted by the addition of Xherdan Shaqiri and Lukas Podolski, Neroazzurri fans don't want to keep waiting for both player's first goals in the Serie A, since Shaqiri already netted the ball playing in the Coppa Italia. Podolski is set to participate in his seventh match with Inter, trying to help Mauro Icardi up front. Icardi will be eager to score at least his 12th goal this season, leading Inter in that department and being responsible for one-third of the team's goals this year.
On the other hand, Palermo aim to finish one of their best seasons ever, led by Argentinian striker Paulo Dybala who also has scored eleven times this year. Coach Giuseppe Iachini has led the Rosanero to an amazing streak, losing only two matches since November. Their most recent game ended up with an exciting come-from-behind victory against Hellas Verona, and Iachini will surely start the same men that won last week. Even though veteran midfielder Enzo Maresca could be out due to an injury, Iachini will have recent signings Andrea Rispoli and Danilo Ortiz available for this match, along with striker Franco Vazquez, who has proved to be quite an asset for the Rosanero, aiding Dybala's efforts up front and dishing out seven assists this year.
During their last match, Palermo scored first via Franco Vazquez, while Mateo Kovacic saved the day for the Neroazzurri with a late strike. A loss for Inter could prove to be too much for them to handle, while a victory for Palermo would confirm their Europa League hopes for next season.
