Despite Brazil having been regarded as widely favored by referees, Scolari complains about Webb.

Despite having been largely favored by the referees, Brazil’s manager, Felipe Scolari, criticized Howard Webb’s performance during Brazil’s eight final against Chile. The comments by the Brazilian manager are surprising to say the least.

In fact, the majority of football fans agree that if there is a team that has been heavily favored by the referees, it is la Selecao. Already during their opening game against Croatia, the Brazilians were awarded the softest of penalties, when Fred went down, arguably by himself. In the same game, the Croatians were denied a legitimate goal due to an apparent foul on Cesar, though the replays failed to make a convincing case for Nishimura.

The Japanese referee awarded the ultra-soft penalty, despite the vigorous protests

Indirectly and inadvertently, we hope, Brazil received another helping hand when Mexico was obstructed by poor refereeing in each of their games. First, Dos Santos was denied two completely legitimate goals against Cameroon. In their last game against Croatia, Mexico was also denied the clearest of penalties, when Srna dove to block a shot by Guardado. Had the Mexican not be penalized, they would have surely topped group A, letting Brazil face Netherlands.

Dos Santos is clearly kept on side by 2 Cameroonian defenders

Brazil had been so heavily favored by match-officials that before the game against Brazil, when asked if he feared Neymar, Alexis Sanchez answered:

“What worries me most about this game is the referee.”

Despite the evidence, Scolari felt it appropriate to complain about Webb, although he is regarded as one of the World’s best referees. The manager of la Selecao stated:

The referees are reluctant to give Brazil anything. Who knows if we're going to win the title, but we're starting to get a little concerned.”

Again, mexico's number 10 is clearly kept onside by Enoh, whose right leg is well past Dos Santos' body

The Canarinha coach added:

“[Alexis] Sánchez committed 15 fouls and dived 15 times for good measure. I think Neymar deserves praise because he kept fighting despite having a physical problem.”

Scolari surely did not mean to personally attack a player who likely should have been the man of the match yesterday, but to suggest that Neymar is an example to be used to oppose diving, seems naïve at the very best.

According to the stadium's shouting, Srna's handball was clearer than it already looked
