The blockbuster fixture of the weekend will feature title rivals Manchester City and Liverpool go head to head at the Etihad Stadium on Monday, the 25th of August.

The two sides were involved in a fiery title battle last time out and from the looks of Man City and Liverpool will go neck to neck this time around as well. Due to the sanctions placed on the citizens for breaching financial fair play rules, Manuel Pellegrini has not been very active in the transfer market but has still managed to spend close to 65 million euros with French centre back Eliaquim Mangala alone boasting a massive 40 million euros fee. However the 23 year old has still not achieved full fitness and is unlikely to feature on Monday night, but Sergio Aguero could return to the starting lineup after scoring a late goal against Newcastle United last time out.

Full backs Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna are also in contention for a starting berth and either of the two will be replacing Gael Clichy for the right back spot.

Man City’s Chilean tactician has taken a snipe at his rivals on Monday claiming that the Reds never deserved the title last season, despite of getting the better of the citizens at Anfield.

"When they beat us 3-2 at Anfield and people said they would go on to win the league, I thought we were very unlucky to lose,” he said.

"Liverpool might have been unlucky against Chelsea but they were lucky to win against us.”

"Though we lost at Anfield we never felt the other team was better than us, or deserved to win the title.”

"We felt we should have won the game and it just made us more determined to win the rest."

Liverpool on the other hand began life after Luis Suarez with a win thanks to a last ditch goal from Daniel Sturridge. Nathaniel Clyne's powerful finish in the second half equalized the scores after Raheem Sterling’s composed finish had given Brendan Rodger’s side a lead in the first half.

The match was likely to end in a draw until Sturridge struck late in the game to secure all three points for Liverpool. The Reds will definitely miss the presence of talismanic striker Luis Suarez this season, but Liverpool fans will surely welcome the signing of Italian international Balotelli who has been hotly linked with a move to Anfield but will not be able to feature against his former club on Monday.
