Liedson da Souza Muniz, nicknamed Levezinho during his time in Portugal, appears to be within hours of becoming FC Porto's newest signing.

During his time at Sporting, Liedson enjoyed an incredible amount of success. The Brazilian born striker is considered to be one of the best strikers to ever put on the uniform of the Lions.

At the time of his transfer to Sporting in 2003, the Lisbon side had to shell out 2 Million Euros to sign the Brazilian from Corinthians. Little did his new club know how cheap Liedson would turn out to be, given his impact at the club.

He spent eight years with Sporting, having won the Taca de Portugal during the 2006/07 and the 2007/08 season. In 2007 and also 2008, Liedson helped his side claim the Portuguese Supercup.

After leaving the Lisbon side in 2011, he left behind a legacy. A total of 214 appearances coupled with 116 goals, turning him into a true Sporting icon.

Having joined Flamengo in August of 2012 from Corinthians, Liedson now appears to be very close to sealing a deal with Porto. It is rumored that the deal should be completed by the weekend with Liedson already in Rio, prepared to fly out to Portugal to sign the contract.

The current Portuguese Champions have been leaning on new signing Jackson Martinez to carry the load up top, but adding Liedson could take some pressure off the Colombian striker.

When Porto manager Vitor Pereira was asked about the possibility of Liedson joining his side, he was quick to change the subject.

"I can speak about Izmailov because he is my player, but not Liedson," said Pereira.

"He is not my player."

"If Liedson turns out to be one of my players, then I will speak about him."

Already 35 years-old, Liedson may be on his last legs, so could this be a big gamble for Porto? Given Pinto da Costa's knowledge of the game, it is somewhat surprising to see him go after a player of Liedson's age.

Could the Porto President be looking too much into Liedson's numbers while he was at Sporting? Or is this a cheaper way to find coverage from a player who knows the league and can at least help fill the void when needed?

If the deal does get completed, their may be a few Sporting fans who will not be happy with the news.

Do you think Liedson will have an impact at Porto?
