Wayne Rooney might be one of the most deadly players in the Premier League due to his fierceness on the field, but there are still much more developments he could undergo, according to Paul Scholes.
The Manchester United squad somehow ‘lost’ a legend when the 36-year-old Englishman decided to hang his boots after the Champions League final at the Wembley Stadium. The one-club man announced his retirement on May 31 with immediate effect, and eventually entered the Red Devils’ coaching staff.

As a player having served United for 17 years, Scholes could consider himself in the perfect position to spot rising superstars at the Old Trafford. Apparently, the man at the top of his list of incomplete but precocious players at the moment is none other than the No.10 striker Wayne Rooney.

Rooney joined Manchester United in 2004 after his departure from Everton, and has since then proved himself over and over again for the Mancunians. Although he has repeatedly been disturbed by scandals and blows on and off the pitch, the young father has not stopped climbing the ladder for exceptional greatness. Scholes thus tipped him to be the club’s most influential player without any doubt very soon, and informed the public that the very best of the forward could be seen much sooner than his thirties.

“When his head’s right and he’s right physically, he can do real damage to teams,” Scholes was quoted saying by The Mirror. “Don’t forget, he is still young and has not reached his peak yet.

“There is more to come from him as he gets stronger and older, and hopefully, we’ll see the very best of him in the next two or three years.”

In his judgment on Rooney, Scholes also compared him to the reigning FIFA Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, stating that the level of Wazza’s contribution in Manchester United could shortly match Lionel Messi’s own in Barca: “He is capable of being the same for us as Messi is for Barcelona. He can be United’s (Lionel) Messi, that’s how good he is.”
