Paris Saint-Germain's star signing Neymar Jr is buoyant about his side's chances of winning this season's UEFA Champions League. The 27-year-old Brazilian who is currently convalescing from a foot injury looked on from his residence in Paris while his teammate ran with a win in the Champions League Round of 16 clash with Manchester United on Tuesday night.
In the forward's absence, goals by Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe gave Les Parisien a huge advantage ahead of the second-leg at Parc des Princes next two weeks.
While Thomas Tuchel's side will hope to finish the job in their backyard, Neymar Jr is not expected to make a full recovery by the time Manchester United comes to France and so is his striking partner Edinson Cavani. The latter missed Tuesday's encounter after sustaining a hip injury against Bordeaux over the weekend.
Nonetheless, Neymar strongly believes that his side has what it takes to advance far in the European competition and eventually win it. "PSG will be Champions League champion," the Brazilian superstar reportedly said in an interview with Red Bull.
"PSG is not just about me - it has an awesome team with great athletes and a genius coach.
"Besides, the PSG fans are like a 12th player when we are playing in Paris. I have no doubts that we will be champions and that I will be playing."
Neymar further highlighted his frustration in carrying an injury at this stage for the competition for the second season running though he admitted that it has improved him as a player.
"The treatment has just begun," he added.
"It will be a long journey and I will have little victories day by day. Thank God I have great professionals by my side and the support of PSG as well as the support from fans all over the world.
"I have played football since I was a little child so, yes, it's very hard to be away from football, from the club's routine and from the fans' warmth.
"In 2018 I faced something similar and I know how bad it is, but that experience made me stronger and more prepared to face what's coming now."
