Luka Modric dethroned his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo to win 2018's The Best FIFA Men's Player of the Year award. The 33-year-old midfielder received the recognition for the respective roles he played in Real Madrid winning a third successive Champions League title last season, as well as Croatia's runners-up finish at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

In the women's category, Brazil's Marta was adjudged The Best Women's Player of the Year ahead of Lyon pair Ada Hegerberg and Dzsenifer Maroszan. 2018 World Cup winner Didier Deschamps was named The Best Men's Coach, Reynald Pedros of Lyon secured The Best Women's Coach, whereas Thibaut Courtois was named The Best Goalkeeper.
Having missed out on The Best FIFA Men's Player of the Year award, Liverpool's Mohamed Salah received the Puskas Award as a consolation prize for his goal against Everton in last season's Merseyside derby.
