Failure to win Saturday's encounter could see Man United drop out of the top four with Southampton and Arsenal trailing by a point and two respectively. The Red Devils have been less than impressive in their recent games but have developed a knack of winning games despite producing average performances.
They were against Preston North End last time out in a match they went a goal behind, but came back strongly in the final third of the game to pick up a 3-1 win. Marouane Fellaini has been critical to Man United's recent performances and has on a number of occasions rescued his team from difficult situations. This has led to Louis Van Gaal being criticised for adopting long ball tactics but his opposite number Garry Monk has offered his support to the Dutch tactician.
"I understand what was said but, in this game, you have to be adaptable," he told the press. "You can't have one set way and Man United have done that well.
"They can change their style in games, which they did against West Ham, and it was only in the last five minutes when they used their strength well with [Marouane] Fellaini to get a point out of the game.
"It's a strength to be adaptable but they can produce fantastic football with world-class players all over the pitch.
"It takes time as a manager to implement ideas. He's gone in with a new ideas for players to understand but the run they've been on shows what he's doing works.
"They're already taking his things on board and I can only see them going from strength to strength."
Swansea on the other hand will be hoping to condemn Man United to a second defeat this campaign after winning the season opener by a 2-1 score line. Ki Sung-Yueng and Gylfi Sigurdsson found the net as Van Gaal took charge of his first competitive match an United boss.
Swansea will however have to produce an improved performance if they are to get anything out of the match against United. The Swans have managed just a single win in their last seven matches in all competitions.
Swansea will be boosted by the return of midfielder Sigurdsson who received a red card during his last appearance against Blackburn in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Radamel Falcao has failed to create much of an impression at the club since making his summer loan move from Monaco, the Colombian is likely to be replaced by the returning Robin Van Persie.
