History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Turkish Super Cup is an annual football cup competition contested in Turkey. The competition, which was originally known as the Presidential Cup from its inception until 1998, was founded in 1966 and is organized by the Turkish Football Federation.
The Turkish Super Cup is contested between the Süper Lig champions and the Turkish Cup winners of the previous campaign, with these two sides locking horns in a single-leg match as a curtain-raiser to the Turkish top-flight season. If one team wins both the league and the cup, the Turkish Cup runners-ups get the other slot instead of the Süper Lig’s runners-up.
Trabzonspor was the first club in history to win this tournament five times in succession (1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, and 1980). Meanwhile, Besiktas was the first to make seven consecutive appearances in the cup's history (1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1995).
