Now that the Ballon d’Or is gone, FIFA reveal new name for their award

FIFA and France Football have split up, and just as it usually happens during divorces, a name change was needed for the football world governing body’s prize.

France Football have dibs on the Ballon d’Or name, as it was their award prior to joining forces with FIFA. They have reverted back to their old format, whilst FIFA had to reshuffle their system.

Without further ado, here is the name of FIFA’s new award: The Best FIFA Football Awards. It may not be the most creative title, but fans will have to make peace with the new name if they don’t like it.

The changes didn’t stop there, as FIFA also announced in a press release that new and interesting prize will be introduced. They call it the “The FIFA Fan Award”.

In a “celebration of those who love the sport”, world football’s governing body will “shortlist remarkable moments throughout the year involving exemplary and passionate football supporters”. Since it is a fan award, it will be up to none other than the fans to choose the winner.

The Best Football Awards ceremony will see eight accolades handed out. They are: 

1. The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016
2. The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2016
3. The Best FIFA Men’s Coach 2016
4. The Best FIFA Women’s Coach 2016
5. The FIFA Puskás Award 2016
6. The FIFA Fair Play Award 2016
7. The FIFA Fan Award 2016
8. FIFA FIFPro World11
