Porto set a new record as the league leaders continue to march on towards the title.

It was a successful round for all of Portugal's "Big Three" sides, but one of these wins has now made history as one team looks increasingly likely to become the latest team to complete a league campaign sans defeat.

Here's what happened in the Primeira Liga this past weekend.

Primeira Liga facts, stats, and other headlines

Porto set new record: Given the form that they are in at the moment, it's not surprising that Porto will be setting quite a few records this season. And while their recent 1-0 win over Vitória Guimarãeswasn't the prettiest, it ultimately doesn't matter, as this stat shows:

Sporting maintain unbeaten run: Sporting, who are the reigning Primeira Liga champs, extended their unbeaten run to ten games in the league with a hard-fought 3-1 win over Tondela last weekend. The Lions last lost a match on January 22nd, when they were beaten 2-1 by Braga at home, and certainly their supporters will hope this form will help see the team past Benfica in this upcoming weekend's big clash.

Benfica bounce back: Benfica also picked up a crucial win last time out which will be a confidence booster ahead of their tough away trip to face fellow "Big Three" side Sporting CP. The Eagles have had a rough campaign, as they will first need to take on high-flying Liverpool in part two of their Champions League game - a task that's a Mission Impossible given they lost the first leg 3-1 at home.

Top Primeira Liga matches: April 15 - April 18, 2022

Porto vs Portimonense: Two teams with vastly different fortunes will meet up on Saturday, and it's safe to say that the outcome here should be as expected. Visitors Portimonense have won just one of their last five games, while Porto are unbeaten so far this season and set a new record last time out. Barring a surprise collapse, fans can pretty much assume that Porto will make it a 58th consecutive league games sans defeat this weekend.

Sporting CP vs Benfica: Any game featuring any of Portugal's "Big Three" sides is one that Portuguese football fans look forward to, and the latest installment of the clash starting Sporting CP and Benfica is no exception. Although both sides, especially Benfica, are out of the running for the league title, and there's a nine point gap between Sporting CP, who sit in second, and their upcoming opponents, both teams will play this game as if it's a final - making for what should be an entertaining encounter on Sunday.
