Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss Euro 2016, as confirmed by Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman confirmed that the injury-prone winger had picked up a fresh knee injury that would keep him out of action for the new two months.
The Englishman has not featured for the Gunners since picking up a knee injury back on February 23 during Arsenal’s defeat to Barcelona in the knockout stage of UEFA Champions League.Speaking during a pre-match interview, the Gunners boss was asked about Chamberlain’s chance of playing in the European tournament and he replied:
“There is no chance.
“I had a conversation with Alex and with our medical team and they told me he will back in July. He was out for a while and was not overloaded with games.
“You want a guy of 22 years of age to go to the European Championships so it is very sad."
This season, the 22-year-old speedy winger has featured for the North London side 33 times in all competitions and scored only two goals. Earlier this year, there were several media reports linking him with a move to Old Trafford to join Man United in the summer, but his latest injury problems could change his suitor’s minds.
The Gunners travel to Etihad Stadium on Sunday to face Man City in what is expected to be a thrilling clash as the Citizens continue with their late push for a Champions League spot.
