Although they won the MLS Cup last season, Portland Timbers have been really struggling in the 2016 MLS campaign. Caleb Porter's men presently find themselves eighth in the Western Conference, with nine points and just two wins out of their opening eight games. Unfortunately, the Timbers have been beset by an injury crisis which has not helped their cause, and this does not appear to be abating any time soon.
Darren Mattocks, Liam Ridgewell, and Ben Zemanski are all still recovering from injury and may not be fit in time for Sunday's game. Adam Kwarasey, Alvas Powell, and Andy Thoma are all definite absentees for the game, whilst Darlington Nagbe managed to make his return earlier this week so could feature yet again in Sunday afternoon's tie.
Despite their trials and tribulations, Portland have been pretty decent at home and will have the full force of their home crowd behind them at Providence Park as they prepare to take on Toronto FC - who boast one of the most in-form strikers in the league. If you're an Azzurri fan, then you must be wondering if Italian NT coach Antonio Conte will be including Sebastian Giovinco in his plans - especially considering how impressive the ex-Juventus man has been since arriving in MLS last year.
Proving that he's not just a one-season wonder, the Italian attacker has hit the ground running so far this season, and already has notched five out of Toronto's eight goals. It goes without saying that he will be the man that Portland will have to keep their eyes on for this upcoming game and the small, but speedy attacker will be likely partnered with the big and powerful Jozy Altidore up front.
Greg Vanney's squad are presently third in the Eastern Conference and are hoping to pick up a third straight road win for the first time in the team's history, whilst also keeping three consecutive clean sheets. Toronto will also be without the services of Jonathan Osorio, Benoit Cheyrou, and Clement Simonin as a result of injuries.
