Los Diablos Rojos snatched a win against the Argentine champions courtesy of Rolando Schiavi's last minute own goal.
An own goal from experienced defender Rolando Schiavi in the final moments of the game allowed Independiente to beat Boca Juniors 1-0 to hoist the Copa de Oro trophy in the city of Mar del Plata on Saturday.

When it seemed that the match was destined to end in a dull goalless draw, a horrible clearance from the Boca defense handed Independiente the only goal of the match.

Boca practically dominated the entire encounter but couldn't find a way past Independiente goalkeeper Hilario Navarro, who made a number of crucial saves throughout the game.

In the 5th minute, Boca created the first goal-scoring opportunity of the night, when Nicolas Colazo caught out Cristian Chavez with a precise cross, but the dangerous midfielder blasted the ball over the crossbar.

Three minutes later, Pablo Mouche connected to a right-sided Dario Cvitanich cross with a fine header, but the attempt was brilliantly saved by Hilario.

The Argentine champions continued to be the dominant team, with Colazo once again coming close to opening the deadlock.

After the restart, Boca kept at the attack but continued to falter when it came down to finishing off their goal-scoring opportunities. Further efforts from Mouche, Colazo and Sergio Araujo were saved by man-of-the-match Hilario.

Independiente were very weak in all aspects, but with the entrance of Leonel Nunez and Martin Benitez they looked slightly more dangerous in an attacking sense.

In the 89th minute the Avellaneda club snatched an unlikely win, when the Boca defense couldn't properly clear a right-sided Benitez cross into the area, which was involuntarily turned into the back of the net by aging Boca centre-back Schiavi.

Both sides were reduced to ten-men towards the closure of the match, with Boca losing Cvitanich and Independiente losing Nunez.
