The defending champions were given a bye to recover from a busy end of the year, but there are teams out there that can carry the load of a new tournament.

The end of 2019 was not dull for Liga MX fans. Starting with Veracruz's elimination from the competition due to unpaid debts, followed by Monterrey's title against América or the amount of money spent by Chivas to boost their squad. With all of that in the past, it's time to focus on the Clausura 2020 tournament, which will begin with a new format of only eighteen teams.

This will not be the full Matchday 1, since América and Monterrey were given a few more days off. These teams played for the 2019 Apertura title just eleven days ago, and they will kick off their season next week.

As usual, the weekend will begin with two games being played on Friday evening. Despite the absences of the two teams mentioned above, there will be four games on Saturday, while Matchday 1 will conclude on Sunday with just one game. Puebla (who were supposed to face América) and Necaxa (Monterrey's rivals) will also rest during Matchday 1.

Guadalajara vs Juárez

Tigres UANL vs Atlético San Luis

Their main duty this year will be to continue what they did in the last ten years, and facing Atlético San Luis should get them to a good start.
